In 2019, Ash, WatchMojo Founder & CEO was invited by Vidcon to present a keynote in Los Angeles on its 10-year anniversary. Ash’s presentation focused on how YouTube has evolved from a scrappy business to eventually being the biggest content platform on the internet over the last 15 years.
In this Keynote, Ash mentioned that YouTube has redefined what a celebrity is. It’s crazy to think about because as more people started YouTube Channels, and some of the biggest YouTubers started to make a lot of money, it’s no surprise that the people of the future want to be YouTubers full-time. A recent study by Business Insider involving 3,000 kids ages 8-12 found that 56% of children in the United States want to be YouTubers when they grow up. And it is easy to see why. YouTubers with a massive following live extravagant lives, creating more content, resulting in more followers, and fame in the process. YouTube has and is continuing to define what it means to be famous.
